This vase was formed on a wheel, hand carved and sanded. After a bisque firing it was sanded again and coated with sacrificial clay in a process called "Naked Raku" as there is no glaze in this process. There is a second firing in a Raku kiln, tongs are used to remove the red-hot piece and place it in a reduction chamber where smoke colors the vessel black in all the uncoated and slip cracked areas. After meticulous cleaning the artwork is twice waxed and rubbed to a luxurious shine.
