50% of the sales from this exhibition went to our community partner, the remaining 50% to the artist.
Community Partner: Scenic Galveston, Inc. (SG) is a community-based, all-volunteer habitat conservation service organization and Galveston Bay-area land trust, focusing on protection and restoration of wetland and coastal prairie habitats on and around historic Virginia Point Peninsula, Texas. Founded in 1992 to create a high-visibility marshland preserve along I-45, SG currently owns and manages approximately 2600 acres, with compatible land use partner adjacencies and buffer lands adding upward of 800 acres to the aggregate. On Galveston Island, SG also owns a 20-acre wetland tract along Harborside Drive. Land acquisition work continues. Inside the Virginia Point preserve, SG has replanted around 100 acres of wetland habitat and continues restoration of coastal prairie via invasive species suppression, replanting and other management techniques. The preserve complex anchors several winning Great Texas Birding Classic teams (TPWD), and SG has hosted Texas Ornithological Society and annual Galveston Featherfest field trips. The preserve also adds significant mainland habitat to the Audubon Galveston Christmas Bird Count and is a site partner of the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory.
