This piece is hand-built and pierced at the "leather hard" stage of drying. The cut outs were sanded to further define their shape and smooth the edges. Naked Raku slip was applied in bands to create the surface design. There is a fascination and risk to firing a piece and removing it from the kiln when it is red hot and placing it in the reduction chamber. After firing and cleanup, the piece was waxed with two different types of wax to give a soft, satiny finish. Additional leaves available for a great wall display.
