My piece, Crush 43 - Time for Change, depicts the Black and White parts of society divided by years of bloodshed. These groups are, however, joined by slogans of hope and conviction like banners in a march which depict what the protesters are marching for. The banners each have a beginning and ending in each group, indicating that both groups are committed to these ideas and are joined together in the achievement of these aims. When this idea came to me, I had an image of the streamers used to 'sendoff' people traveling to other countries. Streamers would be thrown from the decks of the cruise ships. Those on board and those on the jetty would hold onto them as symbols of connection and love. This is what these banners mean to me - a newly forged sense of connection and purpose.
