Liz Conces Spencer
Our visual environment is abstract by its very nature. From any given time and place, it can be experienced as either simplified or fragmented. My reaction to this in my artwork is a balance of structural simplicity with sometimes elaborate patterning. I am not striving for geometric patterns, but the interplay of color, line and sometimes texture to define what is and what is between.
My sources are my own experiential connections to life, as well as issues I am interested in. I seek intimate glimpses of life in translations that are personal to the experience, sometimes without a narrative or editorial point of view. These explorations reflect an extension of the concept that all things connect, down to the molecule and beyond, and that this can be communicated visually.
