Liz Conces Spencer
Our visual environment is abstract by its very nature; at any given time and place, we can experience it as either simplified or fragmented. My reaction to this in my artwork is an attempt to balance structural simplicity with sometimes elaborate patterning, an interplay of color, line and texture to define what is and what is between.
Sources are my experiential connections to places and people, as well as issues I am interested in. I seek intimate glimpses of life in translations that are personal, often related without a narrative or editorial point of view. These explorations reflect an extension of the concept that all things connect, down to the molecule and beyond, and that this can be communicated visually.
