This piece was designed around the wood and iron frame brought by the client. It reminded me of looking into a church window, and I came to see the project as evocative of religious icons. Meditating on these icons is meant to connect one with the divine. The piece became an expression of notions and experiences sacred to my friend, and to myself. It became a reliquary; something that holds a space for the sacred.
I realized that artworks are reliquaries of the divine in ourselves, of our emotions, of the creative spirit, of the stories we want and need to tell. This piece became the inspiration for this exhibition.
