Our Juror
Donna Tennant is a longtime art historian, art writer, and editor living in Houston, Texas. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester and a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of New Mexico. Tennant served as the art critic for the Houston Chronicle in the early 1980s and as gallery director at Jeremy Stone Gallery in San Francisco and Sherry French Gallery in New York. During the 1990s, she served as an editor for Southwest Art, Houston Life, POLO Magazine, and Museum & Arts Houston Magazine. She has contributed articles and reviews to ArtLies, American Artist, ARTnews, New Art Examiner, and Houston Press, among others. Tennant also has written numerous catalog essays and has taught art history at the University of Houston–Downtown and Lone Star College. She currently writes for Arts & Culture Texas, Glasstire, and Visual Arts Source.

Friends For Life is a Houston-based animal shelter founded in 2002 whose mission is to save the lives of pets and create lasting connections between humans and pets. The focus is to understand each animal as an individual, find the perfect match for adopters, and provide the support needed to ensure pets thrive in their new homes. Every adoption is about creating relationships that last for the pet’s lifetime. Friends for Life provides medical care, enrichment, and behavior support to give every animal the best chance at a happy life. ELIGIBILITY
Open to all area artists, age 18 and older. Eligible are 2D and 3D works which have been completed within the last 3 years independent of a class or workshop and not previously exhibited at Archway Gallery. Current members of Archway Gallery and staff/employees/board members of our community partner or juror may not enter the competition.

SUBMISSION of ENTRIES
Artists may submit two works, digitally in jpg format, via the link below. The entry fee for one or two works is $30, payable to Archway Gallery. Titles and prices must be included on your entry forms and cannot be changed thereafter. It is important that your digital images accurately reflect your work.
Works which are found not to be accurately represented by the image submitted may be disqualified at the discretion of the juror. Works featuring violent, sensational, or sexual content will not be displayed. Artists are requested to indicate the use of AI in their works. Collaborations must be identified. Archway Gallery and the juror reserve the right to reject any work deemed inappropriate for this exhibition, for any reason. All work submitted must be for sale.
NOTIFICATION AND DELIVERY TO GALLERY
All submitting artists will be notified of the status of their entries via phone call or text June 23-24. Accepted artwork is to be delivered to the gallery between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on July 1 and 2. Work must be hand delivered: NO SHIPPING!
Works may not exceed 48” horizontally. All work must fit through a standard doorway with a weight limit of 50 lbs. ALL 2-D WORK MUST BE WIRED AND READY TO HANG. NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS or D-RINGS WITHOUT WIRE, PLEASE. ALL WORKS ENTERED MUST BE PROFESSIONALLY PRESENTED AND READY TO RELEASE TO CLIENTS UPON THE CLOSE OF THE EXHIBITION. Works on paper should be framed and under glass or plexi, or alternatively mounted for successful installation. Gallery-wrapped canvases are acceptable, but must be wired for hanging. No wet work, please. 3-D artists exhibiting works that hang from the ceiling must provide the necessary hanging devices and engineer the method of installation. Archway Gallery warrants professionalism to our clients and patrons, and we ask for yours in the preparation and presentation of your work.
RECEPTION AND AWARDS
The show will open for viewing on Sunday, July 5. The public reception on Saturday, July 11, will allow Donna Tennant and representatives of Friends for Life to speak and announce award winners. A video presentation of the exhibition and awards will be posted on the gallery website following the reception. We encourage artists and their supporters to visit the exhibition and share our social media posts. First Prize is a cash award of $500, with guest artist privileges for one month at Archway Gallery. Cash awards will also be presented to the Second and Third Prize-winning artists. Honorable Mention awards will be granted at the discretion of the juror. All prize-winning works will be labeled throughout the exhibition.
SALES
All artwork submitted must be for sale, and all sales will be transacted through Archway Gallery. If a piece of artwork is sold, 50% will be dispersed to the artist and 50% will be paid to the community partner at the close of the exhibition. Any credit card fees on the artist’s portion of sales will be split between the gallery and the artist. Sold artwork will remain on display until the close of the show but will be marked “SOLD” when the purchase has been transacted. Archway Gallery will hold sold works for client pickup and will assist with any necessary shipping or delivery as required. The gallery will share the names and contact information of clients who purchase work with selling artists. All works in the exhibition will be displayed and offered for sale in the online store on the gallery website.
We encourage artists to promote the show via personal websites, social media, links, mailings, and visits with friends and supporters. The digital invitation and catalog will be posted at www.archwaygallery.com. The show will be extensively publicized through our website and social media, gallery street signage, public relations posts and listings, our members’ social media activities, and other opportunities in coordination with our juror and community partner.
AGREEMENT
Submission of this application and the piece(s) represented shall constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to comply with the conditions set forth in this prospectus, including the following:
While I understand that great care and all steps will be taken to mitigate the possibility of loss or damage, in submitting this application, I hereby release Archway Gallery, its members, publicist, and clients, Donna Tennant, Friends for Life and members, staff volunteers, associates, and boards from any and all claims occasioned by injury, illness, damage, or loss of artwork while on the premises of Archway Gallery. Permission to photograph and/or reproduce the work for publicity, documentary, or educational purposes is hereby granted.
