Lisette McClung
|
Lisette McClung is an artist who loves to travel and seeks locations that evoke a sense of place. Painting en plein air allows her to explore these diverse scenes firsthand. Working in oils, she layers colors and shapes to reflect rich patterns of her surroundings. Painting from life helps her understand color temperature, and shifting light and shadow. Although not every plein air session results in a finished piece, each one offers valuable color notes and atmospheric insights that inform her studio practice.
Originally from Virginia, Lisette has lived in the Houston area since 1990. Even after more than three decades near the Gulf Coast, she still misses the Virginia fall season with its vivid autumn foliage and gently rolling hills. Some of her fondest childhood memories include watching the composition of the landscape unfold as her parents drove through the countryside, sparking an early love for shapes and colors. Lisette holds a B.F.A. in Painting from Tulane University in New Orleans and an M.A. in Humanities/Studio Art from the University of Houston–Clear Lake. After a 22-year career as an educator, she retired from teaching high school art in 2020. Since then, she has participated in several juried plein air competitions across Texas and Louisiana, served as a juror for multiple shows, and received numerous awards. Inspired by memories and adventures, Lisette continues her artistic journey and exploring new perspectives. |
