Catherine Winkler Rayroud is an accomplished ceramicist and papercutting artist. She studied ceramics in London, Greece and Switzerland and she received her ceramic degree from the School for Applied Arts in Bern, Switzerland in 1999 Whether the piece is made on the wheel, molded or slab built, Catherine’s work demonstrates her expert hand and not to mention her boundless creativity. Through her themes she is able to thoroughly explore a technique, an idea, or an inspiration. She seamlessly plays with the line between functionality and non-functionality. Today she divides her time between her ceramic studio and her papercuttings. For the last 20 years Catherine’s work has been presented in many solo, juried and group exhibitions in America, Switzerland and Korea and in 2008 she won “best in Show” at the Southwest Biennial at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History.
